## September 2026

**API keys**

* New keys are prefixed `pic_live_` so they can be recognised in logs and by secret scanners. Existing bare-hex keys keep working; nothing to rotate.
* The dashboard Settings page shows keys masked (`pic_live_…3f2a9`) with one-click copy, rotate and revoke.

**Templates**

* A template's card in the dashboard shows its latest render as the thumbnail; `GET /templates` returns `thumbnail` and `lastRenderedAt` per template.
* Creating and rendering templates works on accounts without a team. Teams stay optional.

**Rendering**

* Images referenced by a template are awaited before capture, so `<img>` tags no longer come out blank on the first render.
* Legacy IANA time-zone names such as `Asia/Calcutta` are accepted by the renders feed.
* Authenticated `POST /image` no longer times out on pages that keep a connection open.

**Free tools**

* The HTML-to-image tools accept pasted or typed HTML again, alongside file upload.

**Retired**

* Workflows (CSV or webhook runs with per-recipient email delivery) are retired, and the Workflows API page has been removed. Use [batch rendering](/guides/batch-processing) for one render per row.

## August 2026

**Video Templates**

* Video template API: build a template once (visual timeline studio or a single-file Remotion scene), render it with variables per request — `POST /video/templates/:uid/render`
* GIF output from the video engine: the same render call takes `format: "gif"` — palette-optimised (timeline templates: 15fps / 720px caps; code templates encode natively at half the composition frame rate)
* AI template generation: `POST /video/templates/generate` designs a motion brief, writes the scene code, compiles it, renders frames and reviews them visually before returning a draft template
* AI copilot in the studio: describe a change — or a whole video — and it is designed, built with validated edits, and reviewed, with one-click undo per run
* Captions from speech, stock media search, effects, keyframes, transitions and a font library in the timeline studio
* Server-rendered posters: every code template gets a thumbnail automatically

**Templates**

* Saved-template plan limits enforced server-side, shared across image and video templates

**Improvements**

* API Playground reorganised by product — HTML Rendering, Image Templates, Batch, PDF, Video — with PDF and video endpoints included for the first time
* Documentation corrected against the live API: real key format, real error shapes, real rate-limit behaviour
